Colac Unearthed

Colac Unearthed is a visionary not-for-profit organisation dedicated to reimagining how visitors experience the Colac region. Our primary mission is to introduce an innovative visitor servicing model at the Colac Visitor Information Centre located on Queen Street in Colac, designed to enhance the experiences of tourists while delivering measurable benefits to local businesses. Tucked between rolling hills and wide-open skies, Colac is where history, stories and small-town charm intertwine. From lakeside strolls to hidden gems only locals whisper about, every lane has a tale to tell. We celebrate community, curiosity and the joy of uncovering something new in a place that feels a little bit like home.

Colac & beyond

From the rolling farmland of Birregurra, where paddocks meet artisan plates and heritage shopfronts hum with character, to the leafy trails of Forrest, home to mountain biking thrills and craft brews, the Colac Otway region is full of unexpected delights. Follow the roads to Beeac, where windmills stand like sentinels of a bygone era, or drift towards Gellibrand, nestled in the Otways, where forest walks and friendly smiles are always waiting.

On the coast, the world opens wide at Apollo Bay, a seaside town brimming with fresh seafood, salt-kissed breezes and the gateway to the Great Ocean Road. Nearby, Wye River offers a slower pace, where koalas nap in gumtrees and waves roll lazily ashore.

Venture inland to Cressey, where history whispers through pastoral landscapes, before curving back towards Johanna, a wild stretch of beach beloved by surfers and wanderers alike. Each town is stitched together by stories, scenery and that welcoming country spirit.

Whether you’re chasing a forest adventure, a seaside escape, or the simple charm of rural townships, Colac Otway invites you to explore, linger, and uncover the places where time feels a little softer.
